The first director of the botanical garden was French Jean Batise Louis Pierre who devoted himself wholeheartedly to research and multiply new varieties of plants as well as rare animals in Saigon in particular and in the Indochina region in general.

- Jade Emperor Pagoda (Jade Emperor Pagoda is an ancient temple built in the early 20th century. The pagoda was built by a Chinese named Luu Minh. - Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon (The basilica of the Notre Dame Cathedral was built in 1877 and inaugurated in 1880. After passing the architect drawing contest in 1866, the French architect named J. Bourard have won 16 other architects with Roman architectural style combined with Gothic architectural style has been chosen. All construction materials were imported from France to build with the 57m high bell tower, the width of the church is 33m and 93 long with 6 bronze bells named with 6 notes called Sol, La, Si, Do, Re, Mi. The total weigh of the 6 bronze bells is 28 tons).
