HUE FORMER CITADEL OF NGUYEN DYNASTY

The Imperial Citadel is the most concentrated place of the central administrative apparatus, so the appearance of the palace buildings must be magnificent and need to be carefully protected. In the summer of 1804, King Gia Long entrusted Nguyen Van Truong, Le Van Chat, Nguyen Duc Xuyen and Le Van Duyet to take charge of the construction of the surrounding wall and some palaces. like the ancestor’s temple there. Royal Citadel is rectangular in shape with an area of about 37.5ha, the overall architecture faces south. The south and north sides of the ring are 622m long. East and west 604m.

The wall is made of bricks, 4.16m high, 1.04m thick, 0.66m deep foundation. Caps made in the form of a trapezoid scale. In the middle of each side of the citadel, there is a fortress that protrudes out, above which is a "square" (square house) for soldiers to watch. Inside each corner of the city, there was a platform for soldiers to observe the security situation outside the city.
